OWNER's MANUAL

Spouse Deductions -  Several obscure - but completely legal - tax strategies allow business owners to save as much as $25,000 annually in tax deductions, says Robert Greene, a Staatsburg, NY, certified public accountant.

For example, self-employed professionals can hire their spouse as an employee and provide medical insurance as a 100 percent deductible employee benefit - at no tax cost to the employee-spouse.

And medical benefits are just the beginning, says Greene, who has uncovered more than 100 additional deductions for hiring your spouse, ranging from food to athletic equipment.

But to take advantage of those deductions, a contract must be in place that documents and defines the employer's obligations and the employee's job responsibilities.

Greene has created a Spouse Employment Contract that you may find valuable. You can contact him at (800) 834-3285.
